Body Contouring Surgery
Liposuction, Tummy Tuck/ Abdominoplasty
Surgery for Body Contouring and Sculpting
Downtime 7 – 14 days
Body contouring surgery is done to reshape and sculpt specific areas of the body. Depending on the condition to be treated, body contouring can be done with Liposuction, Ultrasonic Liposuction, VASER Liposelection System or Abdominoplasty.
Liposuction surgery is done to sculpt the body by removing deposits of excessive fat from the abdomen, thigh, buttocks, calves and underarm. This procedure is especially useful for women and men who are of relatively normal weight but have isolated pockets of fat that cause certain areas of their body to appear disproportionate. It can be done as a day surgery under intravenous sedation or general anaesthesia. If a larger volume is removed, a hospital stay is sometimes required. The incisions are very small. In the postoperative period, the patient has to wear a pressure garment over the affected area.
The VASER Liposelection System is a state of the art liposuction system that uses an internal ultrasound probe to liquefy the fat prior to liposuction. It allows a more efficient removal of fat and improved removal of superficial collections compared to traditional methods. The procedure is done under general anaesthesia or intravenous sedation and can be done as a day surgery or an inpatient procedure.
The Body- Tite system is a revolutionary new body contouring system that promises to both remove fat and give superior tightening of the overlying skin. It uses a new liposuction cannula that both removes fat and applies radiofrequency energy at the same time. This tightens the overlying skin and allows treatment of patients with lax skin that would otherwise not be suitable for traditional liposuction procedures. It will save these patients with moderate laxity from undergoing larger procedures such as tummy tucks.
Abdominoplasty is a tummy tuck surgery performed to improve abdominal contour. This surgery is most often done for patients who have lax skin, muscle and excessive fat after one or multiple pregnancies. Excess fat and skin are removed and the muscles of the abdominal wall are tightened to help flatten the abdomen. This takes 3 hours under general anaesthesia and requires a 3 to 5 day hospital stay.
All these procedures are conducted in the operating theatre under intravenous sedation or general anaesthesia, depending on the type of surgery. There is a 7 to 14 day associated downtime.
