Surgery for Creation of Double Eyelids, Suture or Scarless Method, Correction of Sagging Eyelids, Correction of Droopy Eyelids or Ptosis
Downtime 1 – 3 weeks
Eyelid Surgery, technically called Blepharoplasty, is a procedure to remove fat and excess skin and muscle from the upper or lower eyelids. It is used to create double eyelids, correct drooping upper eyelids or reduce puffy bags beneath the eyes.
In younger patients, this procedure can create a permanent double eyelid crease. For these patients, this can be done with a suture or scarless method. This procedure takes 1 hour and causes less swelling. In older patients excess fat and skin are removed at the same time and this may take 1.5-2.5 hours. This procedure takes 1-2 hours. In older patients excess fat and skin are removed at the same time and this may take 1.5 hours. The same can be done for the lower eyelid by removing fat in a younger lady or by removing fat and skin in an older lady.
Correction of droopy eyelids is done in a condition called Ptosis when the eyes cannot be fully opened. In this case, an adjustment of the eyelid muscles is needed in addition to skin and fat removal.
This procedure is done in the clinic procedure room under local anaesthesia and oral sedation. The eyelids will be swollen for approximately 1- 2 weeks and stitches are removed 5 days later.
In older patients, lower eyelid blepharoplasty is used to correct eyebags which are collections of fat and lax skin in the lower eyelid. A lower blepharoplasty would include a redistribution of fat, a tightening of the lower eyelid and redraping of skin and muscle to give a more youthful look.
This procedure takes 2 hours and is done in the clinic procedure room under oral sedation and local anesthesia. Lower lid swelling can last 2-3 weeks.
