Undergoing An Abdominoplasty
Commonly known as a “Tummy Tuck”, an abdominoplasty is performed to improve abdominal contour. This surgery is most often done for patients who have lax skin, muscle and excessive fat after pregnancy. Excess fat and skin are removed and the muscles of the abdominal wall are tightened to help flatten the abdomen.
This takes 4-5 hours under general anaesthesia and requires a 3 to 5-day hospital stay. The estimated recovery time is around 14-21 days. Results are usually satisfying, with patients reporting that they have a more proportionate body and increased confidence.
If the patient has an associated ventral or umbilical hernia, this can be repaired at the same time. Procedures where hernia repair is done are eligible for coverage by medical insurance.
